Tania Rouse – Director of Lifesaving
Arriving in Clovelly on the advice of Equine Dentist, Ken Stone, Tania Rouse is a Southern English lass who was looking for a way to maintain her fitness during her working holiday in Australia.
Fast forward 13 years and Tania, who is the Director of Lifesaving, could not imagine her life without the Clovelly Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) in it.
From the ocean to the track Tania’s love of horses has meant that for the majority of her time in Sydney she has lived in Randwick and worked at the racetrack. Recently taking on a new role as Foreman for Hawkes Racing at Rosehill, Tania is now based at Parramatta.
Always willing to be involved in the Club, Tania held the position of Secretary for 4 years; and Chief Training Officer for 2 years. She is also an Assessor for Sydney Branch and enjoys her work in this area with the SRC, Bronze Medallion and IRB squads.
Thinking about her time with Clovelly, “no one moment on patrol stands out although I do get a sense of pride watching young people who I have been actively involved in training performing patrol duties and helping the general public”, she reflects.
Her reasons for joining Clovelly SLSC may have been on a whim, but Tania reports “I originally joined to get and keep myself fit but fell in love with the surf lifesaving attitude and a sense of belonging in the community.
I love Clovelly surf club for its family feel and the fact that being a slightly smaller cull I know everyone on patrol and have made lifelong friends.”
In demonstration of her incredible commitment, Tania was awarded Surf Lifesaver of the Year in Sydney for 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12.
Tania is thankfully staying in Australia and our Club, “I have no plans of heading back to England anytime soon other than for a holiday!”
