Cory Carey – Patrol Team 2

Cory Carey - Member Profile - November 2015Enjoying his second season patrolling with the Club, Cory Carey is no stranger to the challenges presented to lifesaving at Clovelly.

At 14 years old, Cory is one of the SRC medallion holders on his assigned Patrol Team # 2, and has become a true asset to the group. Always an active member of the team, Cory is happy to lend a hand wherever necessary.

Cory displays great understanding of surf skills and awareness and loves being in the water, either taking out the board for a paddle or body surfing the ‘wall’.

One of Cory’s most memorable days on patrol was when there were 26 rescues and a drowning – it is one way to get thrown in the deep end!

Cory was born in the charming interior mountain town of Nelson, British Columbia in Canada.

He now lives in Dulwich Hill and when asked what prompted him to become a lifesaver, Cory said, ‘I guess because I did nippers and my dad was patrolling and so were many of the people I know, it was just natural that I should start patrols too’.

“I love the beach, the people, and the Club”, Cory said. Hopefully Cory’s passion for Clovelly will mean he won’t leave us for too long in the future to pursue his ambitions to study in the USA when he completes school.
